Jody Broun

Jody Broun is a proud Yindjibarndi woman from the Pilbara in Western Australia who has maintained strong connections to country, community, and culture throughout her life. She is passionate about social justice, community-led co-design, and making a difference by changing the way government engages with Aboriginal communities and stakeholders.
Over the past 30 years, Jody has held senior positions across government and non-profit sectors, gaining extensive experience in housing, health, education, justice, land, and culture. In February 2022, she was appointed CEO of the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), becoming the highest-ranked Indigenous public servant in the Australian Public Service.
As CEO, Jody is responsible for leading policy, program, and delivery reforms that support the Australian Government’s commitment to implementing the National Agreement on Closing the Gap. This includes her role as co-chair of the Partnership Working Group. NIAA operates in many locations across the country, working directly with communities and collaborating with jurisdictions, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations, and the Coalition of the Peaks. Jody engages with First Nations peoples and a wide range of government and non-government stakeholders nationwide, ensuring that policies and programs address the needs and priorities of First Nations communities.
