Delvene Cockatoo-Collins Art

Delvene Cockatoo-Collins is a Quandamooka artist who lives and works on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island). Her studio and retail store in Goompi (Dunwich) is in its tenth year of operation and open to the public daily. Delvene’s practice includes sustainable fashion and homewares, commissions, public art, workshops, and a walking tour across Goompi.

Recurring themes across Delvene’s artwork and expressions are the stories of her family’s lived experiences on Quandamooka Country, her responses to images and texts related to her family, the matriarchal relationships with her great-great-grandmothers who are known basket makers, traditional mat-making techniques, and the use of clays and pigments found across Quandamooka, including the islands and mainland around Moreton Bay.

Recent works include the Brisbane Broncos Indigenous Round Jersey “Ancestors Armour,” a Brisbane Airport Corporation Artwork and Branding commission, ongoing engagements with an international travel company for their US presentations, and DFAT workshops in New York.

Delvene is a board member of Trade and Investment Queensland and serves on the First Nations Advisory Committee for Tourism and Events Queensland.

Delvene is proud of her employment of other Quandamooka women in her business and the 10 years of creating a welcoming space for visitors, community, and family.
